Background
Bishop Dr. Guy A. Cox was born on the west side of Detroit, Michigan to Elder Charles W. Cox and Mrs. Linda M. Hartwell. Bishop Cox matriculated to the Detroit public school system for elementary and middle school, eventually transferring to the Ferndale public school system where he earned his high school Diploma in 1992. After graduating high school, Bishop Cox matriculated to the United States Marine Corps.
Military Service
At the tender age of 16, Bishop Cox entered the delayed entry program for the Marine Corps. He worked at the local recruiting office where he earned the rank E-2 before at the age of 17 his parents signed for him to officially enter bootcamp. Bishop Cox entered bootcamp at Paris Island in Bueford, SC where he completed 17 weeks of intense training thus earning the title of U.S. Marine. He then went to Camp Geiger, NC for Marine Combat Training which is a 4 week training designed to hone combat skills for Marines. From there Bishop Cox went to Armor School at Fort Knox, KY where he learned his military occupation specialty (MOS) of 1812 Tank Crewman. Upon graduation, Bishop Cox earned the rank of E-3 and was then transferred to his final duty station at Camp Lejeune, NC. In 1994, Bishop Cox received an honorable discharge from the United States Marine Corps.
Call To Salvation And Ministry
Bishop Cox received his call to preach the gospel at the age of 18 during his time in the Marine Corps after having had an intense encounter with the Lord Jesus Christ which subsequently led to his personal salvation. The Holy Spirit then led Bishop into an intense study of the word of the Lord which lasted 9 years and prepared him to pass examination for his minister’s license in 2002. In 2003, Bishop took and passed the oral and written examinations required to be ordained an Elder in the Church Of God In Christ Inc. Bishop Robert L. Webbs (Jurisdictional Prelate of the New Hampshire Jurisdiction for C.O.G.I.C.) conferred this ordination upon Elder Cox during the jurisdictional convocation along with the Pastors and Elders by the laying on of hands. All glory goes to the Lord for Pastor John Davis (Detroit,MI.), Dr. Francine Edmonds (Troy,NY.), and Dr. Charles Guthrie (Troy,NY.) for their decade of combined tutelage in ministry. In 2001, the Lord called Bishop to matriculate to school for theological studies by signifying His word in Ephesians 5:15-17. In obedience to the Lord’s commandment Bishop matriculated to Mid-Hudson Bible Institute in 2002 for theological studies. In 7 years Bishop Cox earned his ThB (2005), ThM (2007), and after MHBI Board approval, completed the 2 year program for his doctorate in 1 year thus receiving his ThD in 2008. Bishop would then go on to Pastor his first church Freedom Chapel North (Alcove,NY.) and then later plant and establish his second church Strength & Honor Ministries Inc. (Greenville,NY.) where he would enter the office of the Bishopric after unanimous approval of the Eldership.
